What
is Reiki?
The word “Reiki”
(pronounced “ray-key”) comes from two Japanese kanji
characters:
| “Rei”
refers to the spiritual consciousness that created and |
| |
guides
the universe. |
| “Ki”
is the universal and limitless life force energy that |
| |
animates
and flows through all living things. |
Reiki is a
way to access and channel this universal energy for your own use
or to help others to reduce stress, promote healing of the physical
body, bring harmony to the mind and emotions, and increase spiritual
awareness. Reiki raises the level of universal life force energy
in the body, relaxing tension from stress, and harmonizing energy
imbalances.
Reiki always works for the recipient’s greatest
and highest good and cannot be misused. Reiki is an intelligent
energy that flows to wherever it is needed most and is not limited
by the abilities of, or direction by, the practitioner. Reiki
is a safe, simple, effective method of relaxation and healing
that can be learned and used by anyone.
How
does Reiki work? Everyone and everything
in the universe is made up of different patterns of vibrating energy.
This life force energy (Ki) governs your well-being and health.
When you are ill or stressed, this energy becomes depleted. Reiki
helps to restore your energy supply by clearing away energy blockages
and imbalances, which, if left untreated, would eventually cause
disease to manifest itself in the physical body. Thus, Reiki stimulates
the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
Reiki can only
be learned from a qualified Reiki Master-Teacher by way of an attunement
– an initiation process that opens the recipient’s energy
pathways to be able to channel the Reiki energy. Once a person has
been attuned, all that is necessary to activate the flow of Reiki
energy is the intent to do so coupled with the placement of hands
on (or above) the recipient’s body. Reiki energy is always
drawn rather than sent, as the recipient must be willing to accept
and allow the Reiki to promote healing within their body. The more
often that Reiki is used, the stronger it will become and the more
powerful its effect will be.
